Ring The Bell – February 2013

Ring the Bell for February recognizes Dave Pollington, our part-time GED instructor in the Benton Franklin office.  Dave joined the team at the end of September 2012 and has already made a significant impact on GED attainments.  Dave has established a referral process with WIA programs and outside community partners, and he currently serves thirty students weekly for GED test prep. Six students have successfully obtained their GED since October, with many others in the testing process.

Dave is skilled in connecting with participants from all demographics: single mothers, gang members, basic skills deficient participants, and special needs. Some comments recently received from his students include the following:

  • “Dave makes me feel smart. He is able to teach me math in a way that no one ever has before,”
  • “School has never been my thing, but Dave makes it bearable,”
  • “I only got my GED because Dave took the time to help me understand math.”

Dave’s impact has highlighted the need and demand for a full-time classroom operation. He is an outstanding addition to WorkSource Columbia Basin and the community at large.  Congratulations Dave!
